Research into other intercooler designs revealed that most systems have acutely angled end tanks with very poor air flow characteristics. They also channel most of the charge air (as much as 80% of it) through as little as 20% of the intercooler core.
Many aftermarket intercoolers are much larger than stock to increase core surface area and cooling performance. However, these larger designs often require further vehicle modification for installation, and can adversely affect air flow leading to poor engine running.
Japspeed’s MVT Intercooler for the R35 GT-R is a bolt-on kit that mirrors the two-core factory arrangement, and instantly increases engine performance without remapping.
Suitable for up to 1000bhp, our MVT Intercooler is more than capable of handing almost double the stock horsepower!
After identifying key weaknesses in other intercooler designs, over the course of two years engineers fine-tuned their new R35 GT-R intercooler concept using state-of-the-art CAD software, as well as Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling analysis, and 3D printing technology.
Not content with simply creating new vanes to control air flow, engineers also developed new cast aluminium end tanks with incredible air flow characteristics. Prototype MVT Intercoolers were tested for fitment and performance until engineers were totally satisfied with their revolutionary design.
Fitted with Japspeed’s new front mount MVT Intercooler Kit, our Nissan R35 GT-R showed a 30.7hp increase in engine power on the dynamometer, with output rising from 512.4hp to 543.1hp. This improvement in engine performance was achieved without any other modification to the vehicle.
Further analysis of our MVT Intercooler revealed a much greater maximum temperature drop compared with the standard GT-R intercoolers: 65.°2C for the MVT versus 41.3°C for the stock system. This 44.9% greater temperature drop highlights the supreme cooling efficiency of Japspeed’s Multi Vane Technology design.
Just as significant was the MVT Intercooler’s reduction in maximum pressure drop: 0.035bar for the MVT versus 0.043bar for the standard GT-R components. The MVT Intercooler’s 20.5% reduced pressure drop confirms the system’s ability to increase air flow through the intercooler, which in turn means more of the thrust produced by the turbochargers reaches the engine.
Japspeed’s Multi Vane Technology Intercooler Kit is supplied as a direct replacement for the factory system, with no other modification required for fitment. The intercooler core and TIG welded end tanks are manufactured from aircraft grade aluminium, finished in black for even greater dissipation of heat.
Japspeed’s MVT Intercooler Kit for the R35 GT-R also includes high quality, four-layer silicone hoses plus all other ancillaries required for fitment. Japspeed’s MVT Intercooler Kit is covered by a lifetime warranty for maximum peace of mind.
